Lic. Luis Margáin.

Our director Lic. Luis Margáin, son of Don Guillermo Margáin, joined the firm in 1971, at the end of his career as a Lawyer. He has specialized studies in tax matters and certification as an Alcohol Technician.

His experience and positions include:

  • He was a member of the Alcohol Qualifying Technical Board from 1975 to 1980 in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.
  • Head of the Margáin & Asociados law firm, he participated for 15 years in the National Standardization Committee in the Federal District, where the Mexican standards for different alcoholic beverages and the Official Mexican Standard for Tequila were created.
  • He actively participated in the creation of the fifth title of the Industrial Property Law on Denominations of Origin and its processing before the different government instances.

 

 

  • He promoted the repeal of the tariff on 100% Agave Tequila for the USA in 1989, thus initiating the "boom" of Premium Tequila abroad.
  • At the beginning of the 90's, he supported micro and small companies so that the vote within the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) was equitable for all.
  • In 1994 he was elected President of the Chamber (CNIT) and was a key player in promoting changes to make the true Tequila known to the world.
  • He was Legal Director at Tequila Herradura, forming part of the team that developed El Jimador, Antiguo and Selección Suprema tequilas.

MARGAIN ASSOCIATES


At the peak of Tequila Herradura, he decided to retire in the year 2000 and resume work in the office. He quickly became the legal representative of several companies that produce 100% Agave Tequila, before the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT) and the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), defending their interests.

He has been a director at the CRT for more than 15 years and at the CNIT for more than 20 years. He has participated in all the revisions of the Official Mexican Standard for Tequila.

Academic

Teacher and part of the academic program in more than nine generations in the Tequila Technical Diploma of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, endorsed by the CRT, giving the chair of "History of Tequila" in the legal and regulatory part.
